The two biggest satellite television operators in the United States, DISH Network and DirecTV are at each others jugular fighting for the hearts and wallets of millions of subscribers.
In a bid to outdo each other, both providers offer potential subscriber free satellite equipment and very attractive programming packages. Thus at the moment it is very difficult to know which company has the upper hand in this game of wits.
Only a careful analysis of both services can provide a glimpse of which operator has the best package and service.
Both offer new subscribers free satellite system which consists of a dish and receivers for up to four rooms.
Where Dish Network has the upper hand is in the provision of free Digital Video recorder (DVR).
DirecTV on the other hand only offer subscribers free DVR after a $99 mail-in rebate.
The programming rates for different packages in both companies vary and the decision about who charges less is too close to call. Therefore I will outline the rates for some packages so that you can decide who you think offer the more competitive price.
First, DirecTV and three of its packages which are- total choice, total choice plus, and total choice plus/plus.
The first package consists of 155 channels and 90 days of HBO, Showtime, starz, and 50 XM satellite radio channels. The asking price is approximately $40 per month.
Total choice plus has 195 channels, 9 Showtime and 60 XM satellite radio channels for a monthly fee of $50. The last package has 195 channels, 9 Showtime, 12 starz and 60 XM radio channels. Fee is a flat $60 per month.
The equivalent packages on Dish Network are:
Dish family- 40 family channels at $20 per month. America's top 60 with 75 varieties of channels and some pay per view ones as well, the fee is also $20. America's top 120 consists of 230 varieties of channels at $30.
To come up with the best for you it is pertinent for you to take your time before deciding on the right package that will suit your circumstances. This is the same approach I would take too.
